Phylloxera Update
Phylloxera Exclusion Zone surveying in Bendigo and Heathcote
Extensive surveys for phylloxera were recently completed in vineyards in the Bendigo and Heathcote regions, as part of a joint program by the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and the wine industry.
Grape phylloxera is a devastating pest of grapevines which eventually destroys vines leading to loss of production and a costly replanting program.
Three hundred and thirty three vineyards totalling 2,694ha were surveyed in the Bendigo and Heathcote regions. In addition more than 100 amenity vine lots were surveyed.
